Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Incorporated (TEPCO Holdings, President: Tomoaki Kobayakawa), headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, is accelerating a range of initiatives to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on energy transformation. TEPCO is working toward the realization of a carbon-neutral society through renewable energy expansion, infrastructure resilience, and regional collaboration, while maintaining its role as one of Japan’s primary energy providers.
Leading the Shift to Renewable Energy as a Core Power Source
Through its group company, TEPCO Renewable Power, Inc., TEPCO is promoting the widespread adoption of renewable energy sources such as hydropower, solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass. Domestically, the company operates approximately 160 hydropower plants, several biomass and solar power facilities, with a total generation capacity of approximately 9.7 million kilowatts (as of FY2023).
Internationally, TEPCO is involved in renewable energy development projects in countries including Vietnam, Indonesia, and India, leveraging its operational expertise to expand clean energy on a global scale.

Aiming for Zero Emissions by 2050: The “Zero Emission 2050” Vision
TEPCO Holdings has declared a long-term vision of achieving net-zero CO₂ emissions by 2050. The company is focusing on:
・Expanding non-fossil fuel-based power generation
・Enhancing energy transmission efficiency and reducing loss
・Providing zero-emission electricity plans to both corporate and residential customers
Through the use of hydrogen co-firing, ammonia-blended fuel technologies, and distributed energy resources such as batteries, TEPCO is also investing in next-generation energy systems.
Its retail subsidiary, TEPCO Energy Partner, offers “Aqua Premium” and other green electricity plans that have no associated CO₂ emissions, supporting customers’ decarbonization goals.
(SDG 13: Climate Action)
Infrastructure Resilience and Disaster Preparedness
To prepare for natural disasters, TEPCO is strengthening its energy infrastructure by multiplexing and undergrounding distribution lines, using AI-powered predictive maintenance and drones for facility inspections.
The company also coordinates with local governments to establish emergency power supply networks using mobile generators and backup systems. During recent earthquakes and typhoons, TEPCO implemented rapid response protocols to restore power quickly, gaining trust from communities.
(SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities)
Energy Education and Community Engagement
TEPCO provides extensive outreach to local communities through its TEPCO Eco School, which offers environmental and energy-related education to elementary and middle school students. In FY2022 alone, over 30,000 children participated in its programs.
Additionally, TEPCO supports on-site learning opportunities, energy workshops, and plant tours, contributing to a deeper public understanding of the importance of renewable energy and sustainability.
(SDG 4: Quality Education)
Community-Based Energy Models and Local Revitalization
TEPCO is also working with local governments to promote energy self-sufficiency, introducing PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) models and supporting community-owned power initiatives. These efforts are designed to help regions develop sustainable, resilient energy systems tailored to their specific needs.
